Any woman considering infertility treatment in Chicago has heard of IVF. IVF, or In Vitro Fertilization, has become one of the go-to infertility treatments for a wide variety of women, and for good reason. So why is IVF preferred by so many women and their fertility specialists? Here are a few reasons: 1. IVF has a high rate of success. In the world of assisted reproductive technology, there are few infertility treatment techniques that have such a high success rate as IVF does, and IVF works for women in many different health situations. IVF works because it uses your healthiest eggs and inseminates multiple eggs under ideal conditions in order to achieve the highest chance of conception. It also allows you to begin your pregnancy with the healthiest, strongest embryo meaning a better chance of carrying the child successfully to term. 2. IVF can help women who are in their 30s and 40s. We've all heard that female fertility declines with age, and unfortunately this is more than just hearsay; its medical fact. The decline begins around age 32 and fertility drops significantly around age 40. However, much of this decline has to do with the declining number of viable eggs a woman has as she ages. Since IVF gathers a number of eggs, the best ones can be used and much of the problem can be circumvented. IVF has been shown to increase a woman’s chance of conception significantly even after age 40. 3. Embryos created through IVF are biologically yours. The other most popular form of infertility treatment today is probably natural conception using a donor egg. Donor eggs are effective because they typically come from a younger woman who has been shown to be fertile. However, the drawback of donor eggs is that genetically they come from someone else—they are not your “own” baby, at least in terms of DNA. IVF on the other hand can use your own, natural eggs that are genetically yours but donor eggs can also be combined with IVF if preferred. 4. IVF can use your own frozen eggs. Some women begin fertility planning early and freeze their eggs at a young age, so that these fertile and viable eggs will be available later in life. IVF can be combined with frozen eggs to further maximize the chance of conception. 5. You get to experience natural pregnancy with IVF. IVF involves fertilizing your eggs in laboratory conditions. However, as an IVF mother, you still get to carry the baby to term naturally. A viable embryo will be implanted in your womb just a few days after conception is successful, and you will have a natural pregnancy and birth.
